Tuberculosis in Pregnancy: Diagnosis, Management, and Maternal–Fetal Outcomes—A Comprehensive Review
Abstract Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health problem, particularly affecting women of reproductive age. Pregnancy presents unique challenges in diagnosis and management due to physiological and immunological changes. Objective: To review current evidence on diagnosis, treatment, and maternal–fetal outcomes of tuberculosis in pregnancy. Methods: A narrative review of PubMed-indexed literature was conducted using relevant keywords including tuberculosis, pregnancy, maternal outcomes, and neonatal outcomes. Results: TB in pregnancy is associated with increased maternal morbidity and adverse fetal outcomes such as preterm birth and low birth weight. Early diagnosis remains difficult due to overlapping symptoms with pregnancy. Conclusion: Early detection and appropriate management significantly improve maternal and neonatal outcomes. Keywords: Tuberculosis, Pregnancy, Maternal Outcomes, Neonatal Outcomes, Antitubercular Therapy
